The Mark Of A John Carmack Speech Is Silence

I thought this post on Kotaku summed up why I love listening to John talk so much. Whenever I hear that he has spoken at an event, I’ll do everything I can do obtain the audio.

I remember listening to talks of his from the late nineties given at QuakeCon and just being totally mesmerised by the fact that someone could talk for three hours about such complex things without needing prompts.

Almost everything he says is cut down to the essentials, and is full of rich technical detail when he knows his audience will appreciate it.

What I love most about his BAFTA acceptance speech however, is his final comment. He doesn’t cling to past glories, and he is, if anything, more passionate about technology than ever. The BAFTA is thoroughly deserved.
